What to Wear...

So...this is the one question I hear on almost every consultation call I have: "What should we wear?". I do beleive that as your photographer I am also partially resposible for "styling" you as well as your portraits. In recent years It has been the trend to "match" (examples: jeans & white shirts, Black shirts & khakis, Black shirts and white pant... and these are just samples from MY OWN famiy portraits!!!) HOWEVER, times change and "we" (photographers) evolve... hopefully. I have been LOVING some new "trends" in photography outfit choices. I decides to step out of my comfort rutt that I have been in. I have been a photographer for almost 11 years and my answer to the questions "What should we wear?" has pretty much been- "you should all match." well... NOT ANY MORE!!! Well, you stil can if you realy want to but, I don't think you will when you get inspired to be individuals in your portraits. So- Here is an image that I took last week of my Brothers Family while trying to implement my new take on "What you should wear".

Although- It is hard to see the "layers" in this image there is more going on...
SO, I know I am a more visual person and it really help to see examples. I am going to try to post some new "inspirations" each week.
While searching I found this post on a photographers blog (http://jeanetteleblanc.com/blog) an she gave permission to use it :O)
I just figured "I couldn't have said it better myself" (So I didn't waste my time trying)

You are what you wear.
A little cliché? Perhaps. But when it comes to portrait photography, clothing plays a huge role in the success of the finished product.
Before I go all Stacy and Clinton on you – let’s be clear what your clothing does NOT need to be:
*Brand New- I’m down with your favorite ripped jeans, retro band T’s, and worn converse - as long as you know how to rock them in your own fabulous style.
*Fancy-Schmancy and Uber-Expensive- Unless it’s your thing (If it’s really your thing, then by all means baby, bring on the bling). If you’re not normally a dress-up kind of person, don’t feel like you have to be one for your session.
*Matching- No need to focus on matching everything from the color of your fuchsia headbands to the stripes in your socks. In fact, I beg of you, please, please don’t. *Stressful No need to worry about each and every item, or fret about the suitability of each accessory. This is supposed to be fun. If you’re unsure – call me, and together, we’ll make sure you look fabulous. I promise.
I want you to be happy, thrilled, over the moon about your images, and I know that this is much more likely if we take the time and work together to help you choose clothing that fits these few simple rules:
-Feels Good.
During your shoot you could be sitting in a pile on the grass having a tickle battle, rolling down a hill with your fiancé, throwing your kiddos in the air or climbing a tree. Wear clothing that lets you do all that (and more) comfortably.
As for the kids? Well…uncomfortable kids have a tendency to look…uncomfortable, and are often cranky to boot. Happy kids make for happy pictures.
Bottom Line: Don’t choose outfits that make any of you feel constrained, stiff, itchy, scratchy, like you’re dressed up for Halloween, or that leave you with a nagging worry that a button might pop if you bend the wrong way. Trust me.
Looks Good.
This can be tricky, looking good is totally subjective – right? If you’re not a Carrie Bradshaw fashionista in real life, you might want to pull in some extra help from a straight-talking friend or your trusty photographer (that would be me) who knows about such things and has plans in place to help.
Sometimes last year’s of-the-moment dress has already become hopelessly untrendy. Sometimes the current fashions just don’t look or feel like you. Sometimes outfits that look good in the mirror might not be ideally suited for photography. If you’re really looking for extra help, I can put you in touch with some incredible folks who make people look good for a living.
Bottom Line: If you don’t feel fabulous-fierce-take-on-the-world gorgeous in your outfit, you’re not going to love, love, love the end result – and I’m all about you love, love, loving the end result.
Makes Sense.
Here’s where we pull it all together. It’s not just enough that everyone look good and feel good – you’ve gotta look and feel good together AND the outfits should fit with your location and the desired mood for your portraits.
Glup. That seems like a lot, doesn’t it? (quick – revisit #4 in the top list, and remember, don’t stress).
Before you even begin figuring out your wardrobe, we’ll have an in depth consultation to narrow down what you really want for your pictures, choose the perfect location and make sure you have an understanding about how that all comes together in the finished photograph. I’m with you every step of the way.
*It’s easier than it seems. Think twice about having Emma in a lace prom dress if you can’t get Tommy out of his spider man cape and favorite Star Wars pajama top. If we’re going to be running around in a park, you’ll likely not decide to wear your starched Sunday best. Hate the way stripes and plaids look together but Dad has his favorite stripped polo ready to go? Best steer mom away from her beloved family tartan. Easy-Peasy. [unless Mom is really attached to that tartan, but we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it).

If you’re still not certain, and you can’t decide between the yellow wrap dress with your red heels or your dark skinny jeans and purple belted shirt – I’ve got good news. You don’t have to decide. Bring lots of options. (Or if the session is in your home, so is your closet :O))

Heck – throw your whole wardrobe into the back of the car. When we get to the session we’ll wing it all with fabulous results. Trust me.
Now take a deep breath. Close your eyes. Imagine how blow-everyone-away-fabulous-ready-for-America’s-Next-Top-Model you’re all going to look in those pictures….
Can you see it yet? I totally can. OMG, you look INCREDIBLE!
I can’t wait for your session.

Madison's Story

Madison was diagnosed with a Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) on October 2, 2007, two days shy of her first birthday. Since then Madison has lost most of her strength in her entire body. She cannot bear any weight on her legs, cannot lift her head when laying down, cannot cough on her own and cannot take deep breaths while sleeping. She is very bright, social and happy little girl.
There are ways to improve and even extend Madison’s quality of life. To do this Madison uses a Cough Assist, the Vest, Nebulizer, BiPap, Suction and Pulse Oximeter daily and more when she gets sick.
She needs Respiratory Therapy, Physical Therapy, Water Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Therapy five times a week. She requires special orthodic bracing called AFO’s that she must wear all day long every day, knee stablizers and a hand splint as tolerated. She must use her standing frame daily to help with circulation, stretching her limbs, bone growth, and constipation. She is on a special Amino Acid Medical food formula for easier digestion and to support her intestinal tract, in addition to a strict vegan diet.
She must have Vitamins, Glutamine, ProBiotics, cornstarch and Miralax daily as well as Carnitine, Oral Albuteral medication and Synergist shot monthly. We have more hope now knowing we have a good aggressive plan for care. Lots of work, but she is worth every minute. We truly believe in will power and taking aggressive steps for the health of your children. We will do everything in our power to keep Madison well and to one day win this battle against SMA.

I had the absolute pleasure of photographing two little princesses for their one year portraits. One was a studio session and the second was a park session. TThey were both such little angels during their shoots-seriously... NO CRYING!!! It was great. Mom & Dad on both shoots were so sweet & easygoing; It was exactly what I needed after my horrific week last week :0)

What A Week!!!

Well, It had definately been "one of those weeks"... I was feeling a bit "under the weather" then was having some stomach pain for two days; I was told to go to the ER in case it was my appendix (no fun). Spend most of the day yesteday at the hospital and Way too much money (no insurance) for them to tell me I was fine... really?!?!? Well, I must say that I was really relieved that it was not my appendix or anything else that would require surgery (or more money)... but, it is just frustrating, BUT- I suppose it is better to be Safe than Sorry (at least thats what everyone keeps telling me)- LOL.

~**~So- On a happier note- I had a few GREAT sessions earlier in the week- An AMAZING couple from D.C. and an adorable little angel- Miss "L". And here are a few "teasers" from their sessions :0)....

Well, I have been busy creating new marketing tools, working on the new "BeBe" Programs, Senior packages and more (busy, busy). And here are a few shots from my shoots last week... I LOVE beach shots- The first ones were taken at sunrise (yes... we were all at the beach at 6am!!!) "K" and "N" were SO much fun!!! THey just celebrated their 1 year anniversary- Congrats! And the 3 beautiful women were a mom and her 2 daughters- The session was mom's mothers day gift from the girls. The last pictures they have together they were all in overalls!!! So these updated pictures were much needed- LOL.

I am in the truck, on our way to Tampa for my Bother-in-Laws High School graduation & I finally got a signal on my wireless card to upload this weeks sneak peeks :0) So - here they are- enjoy. Beautiful Little "S" turned 1... The last pictures I did of this gorgeous little girl was her first session & she was 4 months old.... Where does the time go?!?! She is still completely adorable & I had so much fun at this shoot :0)

Well, Today I finally got around to changing my Blog Design... What do you think? I used a free template from Leelou Blogs http://www.leeloublogs.blogspot.com/ I was going to have someone design a custom blog for me to match my main website,, however in an attempt to save money- I did some more searching and then found their site (and a few others) that had some free templates. I was able to customize it with my logo's colors and added my newly designed blog header to further customize it. I also made some new "frames" in photoshop to put mu images in before I post them to my blog. I must say: I am pretty happy with everything as a whole. Feel free to leave comments on what you think, or even what you would like to see...

It has been way too long since I have posted (sorry). In my attempt at getting organized, I have started on my list of "things to accomplish". This week, at the top of the list is to update and work on my blog (both the design and the content). So by next week I should have a new look and more scheduled updates. My goal is to update my blog 3 times a week, with both "sneek peeks" from that weeks sessions and helpful info, insights, or funny stories that relate to photogray or my attempt to balance both running my own business from home and being a mom of two very active boys.... (should be fun). Please feel free to comment, share, and suggest. So- Until next week :)

The new tournament location is Jacaranda Golf Club in Plantation, FL.

SO.... Do we ever really "catch up" or does the list just keep getting longer? lol I wanted to share a few of the recent images I took with some of the new props that I have. The baby "pod" (first image) LOVE IT!!! this baby was just about 2 weeks old & just fit!! She loved it in it to- very cozy! She also really liked my newest cocoon (the babies LOVE the cocoons; This one is pastel color- perfect for little girls :0). I also finally got the tire swing done (Thanks Stephen!!) (pictures at bottom)

Nicki Kristof Photography is participating in the National Charity Model Search to select “America’s Cutest Kid” and to raise funds for charity.

We’re looking for cute children ages 18 months to 14 years old to model for a portrait to be entered into the contest.

Models Search Special:
$100 entrance fee, which includes a 30 minute outdoor model session and one image submitted to the national gallery. Or FREE with any regular portrait session.

Finalists will be determined by online votes. Anyone may vote. Each vote is $1, and all proceeds from votes benefit the non-profit Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep. (NILMDTS.org)

So.... This was almost our Christmas Card... (can't you just see the captioons?!?!?) Why is it my family can never cooperate enought to get one nice picture? My brother tried... but, he's a firefighter not a photographer!!!

Well, :Luckily I got Chelsea to come by early before a shoot a and shot a few nice ones for us. :) Thanks Chelsea! And here is our Christmas card- I LOVED THEM... They were 5x5 Trifolds from WHCC & we got tons of compliments on them.

As the Holiday season in winding down, and the year comes to a close, I am feeling so blessed to have the wonderful family, friends, and clients that I do. I am able to do what I love year after year because of their support. This holiday season was really busy, and I feel very lucky considering everything that is going on with our economy.
